Matsumoto was identified in the Giants’ investigation into illegal betting by Giants players on high school and professional baseball games. Matsumoto was terminated by the Giants along with Shoki Kasahara and Satoshi Fukuda, on 9 November 2015. The NPB league commissioner issued indefinite disqualifications to the three players on 10 November. Matsumoto can apply for readmission to league after five years, provided he shows that he is sorry for his actions. The ban applies to American Major League Baseball as well as professional leagues in China South Korea, Taiwan. Because there was no evidence of their involvement in fixing matches, the investigation did not result in permanent disqualification.
Matsumoto was the tallest Japanese-born left-handed pitching pitcher to ever enter professional baseball. Matsumoto made nine appearances in 2012 for the Giants’ Eastern League farm team. He finished with a 2-2 record and a 4.50 ERA. Matsumoto couldn’t play in 2013, due to injuries to his shoulder. He pitched 16 games for the farm team in 2014, posting a record of 3-10 wins-loss and a 5.13 ERA. He made nine appearances for the farm team in 2015, with a record of 1-1 and a 4.50 ERA.

Ryuya Matsumoto, also known as Song Ben Long Ye, Matsumoto Ryuya, was a Japanese professional baseball pitcher. He was born April 29, 1993. He was one of three Giants players who were given an indefinite disqualification penalty by the league for wagering on professional baseball games.
Matsumoto was educated at Takamatsu’s Eimei High School. In his last year, he was the school’s ace pitcher. He led the school to victory at the Kagawa Prefecture tournament. The school also earned a spot in the national high school championships 2011. Matsumoto was the pitcher for his team’s 4-1 win over Okinawa Prefecture Itoman High School. He threw 11 strikes in that match. Matsumoto was the only player to throw nine strikeouts against Noshiro Shoyo High School in Akita Prefecture. However, his team lost the match 0-2. Matsumoto, who was 193 cm tall, had a strong performance and earned the nickname “Eimei’s Randy Johnson”. In the Yomiuri Giants’ 2011 rookie draft, he was their first round pick.
