The husband of Kindred is also a fellow British Paralympic gold medal winning swimmer Sascha Kindred. The pair reside in Herefordshire are often referred to as”the “golden couple” of British disabled swimming. They had their first daughter, Ella, was born in the year 2011. Kindred was named Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2009 Birthday Honours.
In the 100m S6 backstroke event at the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing Kindred was knocked out of second spot in the backstroke by Dutch athlete Mirjam de Koning-Peper. Kindred expressed her disappointment by declaring “My legs were spasming, but to be honest, there are no excuses for that, … I should have gone quicker but it just wasn’t there tonight”. Alongside this medal-winning performance Kindred also made it to the semi-finals in the 100m breaststroke SB5 (finishing 4th) 200 meters SM6 Individual Medley (finishing sixth) and the 400 meters freestyle S6 (finishing 6th). The month of April 2012 she was selected to compete in her participation in the 2012 Summer Paralympics at the S6 100m backstroke. In the final , she placed second and won the silver medal, with the time of 1:26.23.
