2013 was the year Kikuchi was finally fixed after Higashide broke his knee in spring training. He and Yoshihiro maru, both from Japan, hit two grand slams against the Chunichi Dragons on May 12. This was the 22nd occasion it had ever happened in NPB history. This was the first grand slam in either player’s professional career. Maru scored one in the 4th inning and Kikuchi added the sixth. Two days later, a plaque was placed at Mazda Stadium’s left field wall to commemorate the team’s double-grand-slam win. He recorded his 497th assist in second base on September 26. This broke the 2005 NPB record set by Chunichi’s Masahiro Aaki. He ended the season with 528 RBIs, a record for all- time NPB. He batted in his 50th Sac Bunt three days later against the Giants. This beat the franchise record set by Higashide back in 2001 and also made him the league’s top hitter. He was present in 141 of the 144 games on the schedule. In 2018, he was selected to the 2018 NPB All-Star game, making it his fifth consecutive appearance at the NPB All-Star series.
