Rohlinger was a four-year starter for the West Bend East team, which was then a powerhouse. It was coached by Doug Gonring, a state coaching legend. Rohlinger was the Wisconsin state baseball player of the Year in 2002. Rohlinger was an all-state shortstop in both junior and senior years. He was also a second baseman for the state as a freshman and sophomore. Rohlinger was part of two West Bend East state championships in 1999 and 2002. The team compiled a 110-21 record throughout his prep career. Rohlinger holds the state record for total bases and doubles.
Rohlinger was selected in the 2005 Major League Baseball Draft in the 21st round by the St. Louis Cardinals, but returned to University of Oklahoma for his senior season. Rohlinger was then selected in the 6th round of the 2006 Major League Baseball Draft by the San Francisco Giants.
Rohlinger played for the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes of the Northwest League in 2006 that won the Northwest League Championship. Rohlinger batted .252 with 3 home runs and 28 runs batted in.
Rohlinger was a Junior College All American at Clarendon Junior College, Texas in 2002-2003. Rohlinger was then transferred to the University of Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma. Rohlinger was the Sooners’ starting third baseman and earned the nickname “Mr. Clutch was a home-run and hit hitter who had many game- winning home runs. He also won a game against the number one University of Texas. Rohlinger was the 2006 team captain for the University of Oklahoma. Rohlinger was the Most Valuable Player of the Cape Cod Baseball League Championship series in 2004, helping the Yarmouth–Dennis Redsox win the league title.

Rohlinger graduated from West Bend East High School in West Bend, Wisconsin in 2002, where he played baseball, football, basketball, and tennis.
