Pace declined an interview by the New York Jets for the position of general manager in 2015. The Chicago Bears interviewed him for the general manager job on January 7. He was hired that day. The 2015 NFL Draft was Pace’s first draft, which saw him pick Kevin White in round one. After a disappointing 3-13 season in 2016, which saw the Bears pick third overall in the 2017 NFL Draft draft, Pace traded with the San Francisco 49ers for a place to draft quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. The Bears finished 14-34 in Pace’s three first years, and that stretch was Fox’s tenure. Fox was fired after the 2017 season.
Pace was not offered any opportunities as a player and was instead hired by the New Orleans Saints as a coaching intern in 2001. Six years later, Pace was appointed director of professional personnel and, in 2013, he was named director of player personnel.
