Montbleau has performed solo/acoustic opening for John P. Hammond and Melissa Ferrick as well as Rodrigo y Gabriela. His band is now a regular part of the Gathering of the Vibes music fest in Connecticut. Martin Sexton was Martin Montbleau’s backing band and opened for Ryan Montbleau Band in spring 2010. Sexton recorded the album Heavy On The Vine at Camp Street Studios, Cambridge, Massachusetts, before departing on that tour.

He received his first guitar when he was nine years old, but it wasn’t until he attended Villanova University that he really began to concentrate on his songwriting and playing. Montbleau started playing at the House of Blues, Boston, in 1999, after completing college. Montbleau started performing original music at the House of Blues, as well as other Boston, Somerville and Cambridge coffee shops, folk and music venues. He developed a loyal fan base. Before forming the Ryan Montbleau band, he performed his music occasionally with a percussionist under the name “Palabra”.

Montbleau joined Matt Giannaros (acoustic upright, electric bass, backing voice), Laurence Scudder, Jason Cohen (piano and organ, clavinets, Moog synthesizer) & James Cohen (drums). One Fine Color, the group’s first album together, was released in 2006. Yahuba Garcia Torres, percussionist, backing vocals, was a sixth member of the group and toured often with them. The band announced in February 2011 that Laurence Scudder, the viola player, was leaving the band. Lyle Brewer, the guitarist, was also joining the group. Ryan Montbleau Band posted on October 2013 that their current lineup would be changing. Jason Cohen (piano and organ, clavinet and Moog synthesizer), and Lyle Brewer(guitar) have left the band to concentrate on their families. Ryan Montbleau Band performs upwards of 200 gigs annually.
