Hulings was tested with AFC Cleveland and Dayton Dutch Lions in 2013. After one tryout, Hulings was signed by Riverhounds. Huling’s first match was against Wigan Athletic, July 19, 2013. Hulings was loaned to the club’s development team, Pittsburgh Riverhounds United 23 of the Premier Development League. He also provided cover for the first team. Hulings played 10 games for the U23 team during the inaugural season.

On April 14, 2016, Hulings was announced as a member of the initial roster for the Tampa Bay Rowdies’ NPSL reserve side Rowdies 2.

He also served as the Riverhounds Development Academy’s Goalkeeper Director. Hulings served as an assistant coach at Baldwin Wallace University for the men’s and the women’s teams during the 2013 season. He was the assistant goalkeeper coach for women’s teams and the head goalkeeper coach of the men’s hockey team. Hulings was appointed as the assistant coach for the Pitt Panthers of University of Pittsburgh in 2014. Hulings was hired by Virginia Tech Hokies in August 2016 to be their goalkeeper coach. After a two-year stint with the Hokies that included two NCAA tournament appearances it was announced that Hulings would be joining the UMass Minutemen in the 2018 season.

Hulings started playing college soccer with the Yellow Jackets at Baldwin Wallace University in 2008-2009 as a freshman. For his freshman season, he was the team’s backup goalkeeper before becoming the team’s starting goalkeeper as a sophomore. In his junior year, he started all 20 matches for the team. Hulings was a part of 59 matches for the team, and was named MVP in his senior season.

Hulings was a four-year player at Centerville High School’s high school soccer team. He earned three varsity letters. Hulings was part of the Ohio South Olympic Development Program State Team for four years. Hulings made his professional debut for the senior side on May 20, 2015 in a 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup second round match the West Virginia Chaos as Ryan Thompson and Calle Brown had sustained minor injuries. The team went on to earn a 3–0 victory. A week later, Hulings kept a clean sheet again as Pittsburgh defeated the Tampa Bay Rowdies 1–0 to advance to the fourth round of the tournament. Three days later on May 30, 2015, Hulings made his league debut for the Riverhounds in what a columnist called the “club’s greatest ever game” as the team scored three goals in stoppage time for a 6–5 victory over the Harrisburg City Islanders.
