Ryan Briscoe is one of the most popular and richest Racing Automobile Driver who was born on September 24, 1981 in Sydney, Australia. Briscoe won his first career victory at the Milwaukee Mile one week after Indy. He held off Scott Dixon and avoided a late collision involving Vitor Meira, Ed Carpenter, Marco Andretti. Briscoe was the sixth driver to win his first IndyCar race while driving for Penske. He follows Mark Donohue (1971), Tom Sneva (1975), Rick Mears (78), Paul Tracy (1993) and Helio Castroneves ((2000). Shortly after the halfway point in the season, Briscoe won his second career victory at the Honda 200 on Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
In 2005 IndyCar Series, Briscoe was in pole position at Sears Point. However, he struggled on the ovals, and was involved with several crashes. He was also injured in a crash at Chicagoland Speedway on September 11, 2005, which resulted in him breaking his clavicles. His car was driven by Alex Barron in the Cheever Racing entry and climbed onto the Cheever Racing entry. He then flew into the catch fencing, snapping in two. After some initial treatment in the USA, he was released from the hospital and moved to Viareggio’s specialist Formula Medicine facility for the majority of his rehabilitation. Briscoe took 8 weeks to heal from the injuries sustained in the accident. His official website announced his return to America on 14 November 2005.
In 2006, Briscoe was announced as an endurance driver for Holden Racing Team in the Australian V8 Supercars touring car series. He partnered Jim Richards at the Sandown 500 and Bathurst 1000, with Richards crashing the car before Briscoe could drive a race lap at Bathurst. Briscoe also drove in the A1 Grand Prix race at Laguna Seca in the USA for A1 Team Australia, scoring three points.
Briscoe was dropped by Ganassi for 2006, replaced by 2005 IndyCar champion Dan Wheldon. During the winter, he tested with fellow Australian and Champ Car owner Kevin Kalkhoven’s PKV Racing team. Briscoe also tested for the Conquest Racing team. Briscoe competed in the 2006 24 Hours of Daytona with 2005 champions Wayne Taylor, Max Angelelli and Emmanuel Collard, but the team withdrew due to accident damage before Briscoe’s turn to drive.
He was the first test driver for Toyota Formula One in 2002. After seven races, he quit the team and began racing in Formula 3000. He won the German Formula Three Championship and took 3 podiums in 6 rounds. He won 8 races in the Formula Three Euroseries 2003, and also won the Formula Three Euroseries 2003. After Cristiano da Matta, the previous third driver Ricardo Zonta, he became Toyota F1’s “third” driver. He drove the test car for the team on Fridays at Grands Prix.
