Russell Latapy is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on August 2, 1968 in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. Russell Nigel Latapy, CM, a Trinidadian former footballer, was born 2 August 1968. He played as an attacking midfielder and as a coach. He played for more than 20 years in a distinguished career that included eight years playing with three clubs, most notably Porto, and eleven seasons in Scotland representing four teams: Hibernian Rangers, Falkirk, and Rangers.

Latapy signed in summer 1996 with Boavista FC, his city-neighbors. He scored twice against FC Dinamo Tbilisi on 29 October 1996 in a 5-0 win. Benfica (3-2).

Despite his contributions, Latapy was sacked from Hibernian early in 2001 after a night that began with him socialising with countryman and Manchester United player Dwight Yorke, and ended with him being charged by police for drunk driving. The incident represented a breach of the code of conduct for Hibernian players, who were forbidden to drink for 48 hours before a match. It was around this time that both players quit international football after being dropped from the starting line-up by national coach Renê Simões, after they failed to show up for a training session.

Latapy finished the 2002–03 season with fellow league team Dundee United. In the summer, he was brought to Falkirk by manager John Hughes, his former teammate at Hibs, who had ‘tracked him down’ in Portugal. The veteran started strongly, scoring a total of fourteen league goals in his first two seasons, and was an essential component of the team as they returned to the top flight in 2005, as champions. In the process, he was awarded the First Division ‘Player of the Month’ for April and was again named the league’s Player of the Year.

Latapy, then 22, was playing in Jamaica and his country. He moved to Portugal in 1990 and signed for Academica de Coimbra. Latapy played four years in the second Division. He played in almost 150 games during his time in Coimbra and scored 18 goals in the last two seasons. However, the club did not win promotion. He also acknowledged Vitor Manuel as the coach he most admired.

Latapy was 19 when he had the opportunity to go to Florida International University. However, he decided to keep his football career going. His mother supported him in this decision, despite the fact the sport was not well- respected in Trinidad in the 1980s.

Latapy’s input in the finals in Germany consisted of 25 minutes in the 0–2 loss against Paraguay, in an eventual group stage exit.
