Roy Paci worked in the Italian alternative theatre scene. He put up Poetry and Andalusia which was performed at some of the most prestigious avant-garde theaters in Italy. Paci’s love for experimental theater and music merged in the Trade Almost telepathy. It was written by Ivano Folssati and later released as audiobooks. The house band for popular Italian TV shows was Roy Paci’s Aretuska group. This made him and his music well-known to the public. Paci has composed film music for Italian cinema. Many of Paci’s songs have been commissioned to be used as film soundtracks. This album explored swing rhythms, calypso and rocksteady, as well as new arrangements of traditional Sicilian folk songs. Tony Scott, Mike Patton and Shantel continued to collaborate with Zap Mama, Gogol Bordello.

In 1990 Paci moved to South America to perform cumbia and other popular music. He also made trips to Senegal and the Canary Islands to further develop his musical interests. These trips set Paci on a path that would take him to a series music collaborations and tours, which included film and television, as well as political causes such relief efforts in Africa, and Amnesty International’s campaign for violence against women.

In 1999 Roy Paci met French/Spanish(Basque) musician Manu Chao with whom he recorded the critically acclaimed album Proxima Estacion: Esperanza. Paci continued to record with Chao, and toured extensively as part of his group Radio Bemba Sound System. Paci started a long-standing partnership with Dutch post-punk group The Ex in 2001. They toured and recorded with the Ex Orkest, which is a 20-piece band of European improvisors that revolve around The Ex’s anarcho-punk songs. Together with Wolter Wierbos, Mats Gustafsson (trombone), and Ken Vandermark(saxophones), Paci continued to tour with The Ex and was a member Brass Unbound. He also contributed trumpet tracks to the band’s album Catch My Shoe.

In 2006 Paci joined forces with Grammy Award-winning klezmer musician Frank London and Balkan brass band leader Boban Markovic for an album combining Paci’s Sicilian tradition with Jewish melodies and Balkan sounds called Trumpet Triumph.
