Crothers, a 13 year old, made his international swimming debut at the 2011 Arafura Games. He won a bronze medal for the Men’s 400m M MC freestyle. He also broke four Australian National Age Records in the 50m (100m), 200m, 400m and 400m freestyle events of the S9 classification. Since then, he has claimed S9 Australian National Age Records for freestyle at the age of 13, 14, 15, and 16, in the 50m and 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle. Rowan set the S9 World Record in the 400m SC freestyle at the 2013 Australian Short Course Championships. At the 2014 Australian Swimming Championships, he continued his feat by setting two new World Records in the S9 100m Freestyle and the S9 200m Freestyle WR. Rowan also qualified for the 2014 Australian Commonwealth Games Swim Team as well as the 2014 Para Pan Pacs Team. Rowan has cerebral palsy which affects his kick efficiency. He has been working hard to perfect a propulsion style that makes the most of the leg strength, coordination and coordination he has.
