Ross Tokely, a professional Scottish football player and coach, was born in Aberdeen on 8 March 1979. Tokely was a right back for Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Ross County.

Tokely was part the team that won promotion to SPL in 2004 by winning the First Division title. Inverness was promoted to the SPL in 2004, and Tokely retained his place in the team, receiving the number 2 jersey. Tokely received a testimonial match against Sheffield United after he had served the club for 10 years.

Nonetheless, Tokely retained his place in the Inverness side after their drop back down to the First Division, helping the club gain promotion straight back to the SPL in 2010. He was made captain of the team for his 500th appearance for Inverness, a 1–0 win against Airdrie United. Tokely agreed a new contract with Inverness in June 2010, despite receiving offers from overseas. In May 2012, he rejected a contract offer from Inverness and ended his 16-year career with the club.

On 7 June 2012, Tokely signed for Ross County on a one-year contract.

Tokely had other positive achievements during this period, including a great goal against his childhood heroes Hearts in 2002’s Scottish Cup. Tokely scored a 20-yard goal into Tynecastle’s top corner to defeat another SPL club. Inverness had won the cup 3-1 at Celtic Park back in 2000. Tokely also scored a penalty against Dunfermline Athletic, which was the winner of the League Cup.

Tokely, a Highland League player from Huntly, joined Inverness in 1996. He stayed at the club until June 2012. For a total 16 seasons at Inverness. Tokely, who was ICT’s longest-serving player, currently holds the club’s appearance record. Tokely also has the distinction of playing and scoring in every Scottish league football division, including the Third Division and the SPL for Inverness.

Ironically, Tokely racked up further disciplinary points as he was sent off for a professional foul on the final day of the season against Falkirk. Inverness went on to lose the decisive match 1–0, and were consequently relegated, with Tokely’s dismissal identified as the “turning point” of the match.
