Montague, after a spell on loan at Conference South clubs Sutton United & Welling United on loan, made his debut in the 2007-08 season on 27 October 2007 as a substitute for Lee Thorpe in the 71st minute of a win over Lincoln City. In December 2007, he replaced Thorpe in the starting line-up under Andy Scott and remained there until January 2008. Montague scored the club’s only senior goal in a 3-0 victory over Chester City on 29/12 2007. Montague was offered a one-year contract in April 2008, despite sustaining a season-ending back injury that ended his season in February 2008. After getting back to fitness in August 2008 he only made two appearances in the 2008-09 season before sustaining a season-ending injury to his cruciate ligament while training in December 2008. Montague’s contract expired June 2009. However, he was invited by the club to train with them during the 2009-10 preseason to prove that he was healthy enough to receive a new contract. Montague decided to leave the club in August 2009. He made 16 appearances at Griffin Park and scored one goal in his two-year tenure as a Griffin Park first team player.

Montague, a forward-thinking student, entered the Centre of Excellence in Brentford at an early age. In 2005, he was awarded a scholarship and enrolled in an Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence. Montague was called up to the first team squad in a League One match against Scunthorpe United, on March 3, 2007. He was an unutilized substitute during the 2-0 loss. In April 2007, Brentford was relegated to League Two. Head of Youth Barry Quin became the caretaker manager for the first team’s final four matches and promoted several scholars to the squad. Montague was a substitute in the second half of each match and signed a one year professional contract with an option for one in June 2007.
