Caldwell ended his contract with the club on 9 January 2015, after making only a few appearances. Caldwell played 15 games for the club and scored two goals.
Caldwell was mostly used as a replacement during the 2012-13 season. Caldwell made his second appearance as a Hibs player, scoring a match-winning goal against Hearts in Tynecastle on May 12, 2013. In the first months of 2013-14, he made seven appearances for the Hibs’ first team but did not return to the club after 30 November. Caldwell was temporarily loaned by Alloa Athletic to play the remainder of the season in January 2014. In a 3-1 loss against Queen of the South, Caldwell scored his first goal for Alloa.

Caldwell was invited by the Scotland under-19 football team to attend a training camp in March 2011.
Caldwell was educated at Hamilton Grammar School and began playing football in his teens. Caldwell played in various boys’ teams before joining Hibernian’s youth team. Caldwell was added to the Hibs team by Pat Fenlon shortly after taking over in November 2011. Caldwell was selected as a substitute for Motherwell in a match, but was unable to play because of the abandonment. Caldwell made his senior debut against Rangers on December 10, 2011. He was a substitute in the 2-0 loss. Caldwell signed a two-year extension with Hibs in March 2012.
On the same day Caldwell left St Mirren, he signed a contract with Scottish League One side Greenock Morton until the end of season 2014–15. He was released by Morton at the end of the season. In July 2015, Caldwell signed for Ayr United on a six-month deal. At the start of January 2016, Caldwell was released by Ayr United having made 22 appearances, scoring five times for the side. He subsequently signed for league rivals Cowdenbeath shortly after his released from Ayr. Caldwell left Central Park and just four months, signing for Brechin City in June 2016. Caldwell was released by the club on 30 May 2017, after one season at Glebe Park.
