Brown was the second-placed Australian lightweight eight man in 2010’s World Championships at Lake Karapiro. He also won the silver medal. The lightweight eight remained together through 2011, with Perry Ward & Angus Tyers being replaced by Rod Chisolm & Tom Gibson, and Darryn Purcell moving into the stroke seat. They raced their finals to perfection at the 2011 World Championships. Brown won the gold medal by 0.17 seconds, sitting second at 1000 and 1500 respectively.
He won a bronze medal at the 2004 World Rowing Championships, Banyoles in the lightweight eight. He finished eleventh in the lightweight coxless tandem with George Roberts at Gifu, Japan 2005. In 2007, he continued to row in the coxless tandem and won bronze at the World Rowing Championships alongside Michael McBryde. He finished fourteenth at the World Championships 2009 in a lightweight coxless four.

Brown represented Australia in a lightweight coxless tandem with Tom Nicholls, his West Australian team-mate. They placed sixth at the 2002 World Rowing Cup II. The pair also won the silver medal at the World Rowing U23 Championships, Genoa that year. Brown and Nicholls joined forces with Cameron Wurf and Tom Gibson to create a lightweight coxless four in 2003. They placed 12th overall at the World Rowing Cup III, Lucerne. However, they won the gold medal at the 2003 U23 World Rowing Championships Belgrade and were awarded an U23 World Championship.
Brown represented Western Australia from 2002 to 2004, and 2006 to 2011, in the men’s four-person lightweight contesting the Penrith Cup within the Australian Rowing Championships. He was in the West Australian fours that won in 2007, 2008, and 2009.
After winning gold at the 2011 World Rowing Championships in the men’s lightweight eight, he became the High Performance Development Officer with Rowing Australia.
