Barbour, a member of Kilmarnock’s under 19 team, was promoted to the first squad on 17 December 2011. He was an unutilized substitute in Kilmarnock’s match against Dundee United. On 7 April 2012, Barbour made his debut at the age of 19, as a substitute in the second half against champions Celtic. Barbour signed a two-year contract extension on 22 May 2014.
After leaving Stranraer, Barbour signed for Troon 24 August 2016.
Upon the expiry of his contract at Troon, Barbour joined East of Scotland side Linlithgow Rose in July 2018, where he revelled in a previously unfamiliar midfield role. After the departure of Manager Mark Bradley, Barbour requested a move back to his native West Coast.
