Bertone graduated in 1995 as a lawyer from the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences of the National University of the Littoral. She was elected in 2001 to the Argentine Chamber of Deputies Tierra del Fuego. In 2005, she was re- elected. She was controversial for opposing her party’s plan to allow same-sex marriage in 2010.
Bertone ran in the 2011 election for Governor of Tierra del Fuego, but was defeated by incumbent Governor Fabiana Ris. After her third term in office as a Deputy, Bertone was elected to Argentine Senate for Tierra del Fuego. She ran for Governor again in 2015, winning 42.26% of votes in the first round. Federico Sciurano was her opponent. She won more than 50% of the vote and she was elected Governor.
