Kerr, after a 2004-05 season that was hampered due to injury, left Glasgow Warriors to travel to New Zealand.

He returned to Scotland in 2006 and then played for amateur side Glasgow Hawks.

Kerr nearly signed for Newcastle Falcons after a difficult season under Kiwi Searancke, but the Glasgow coaches didn’t release him. Kerr stated that he was desperate to play rugby. There is nothing worse than not being able to play after training for a week. They weren’t the coaches of hell, but they were a good coach. They tried to improve things and had some great ideas. They didn’t manage man-management well. Kerr had 3 starts in 2002-03 – all of them in the Scottish Inter-District Championship.
