Rory Delap is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on July 6, 1976 in Sutton Coldfield, England, United Kingdom. Rory John Delap, born 6 July 1976, is an ex-footballer who was a midfielder. He was born in England and made 11 appearances with the Republic of Ireland’s national team.

Southampton signed Delap on 10 July 2001 for a fee PS4 million. Delap became Stuart Gray’s second signing after Glenn Hoddle was replaced as manager. He also became Southampton’s record transfer, a tag he kept for nearly 11 years before Jay Rodriguez, Burnley, was signed for PS7 million, on June 10, 2012. His former club Carlisle was awarded PS700,000. Delap scored his first goal for Southampton in a 3-1 win over Ipswich Town at Portman Road, 2 March 2002. Later that month, he scored his first goal for St Mary’s with Fulham in a 1-1 draw.

A former Republic of Ireland under-21 international, Delap won 11 caps for the national team between 1998 and 2004. He was not included in the Irish squad for the 2002 FIFA World Cup, where the nation reached the final sixteen of the tournament. His international career was marked by a number of withdrawals, the last of which was with a twisted knee on 25 April 2004 before a midweek friendly with Poland.

Delap’s third goal for Southampton and arguably the best of his career, was a spectacular bicycle kick in a 1–0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on 27 March

  1. The 64th-minute strike ended a near two-year goal drought. Seven months later he scored two headers in a 2–2 draw with Arsenal at Highbury. Both goals came in the last ten minutes of the game, and would have secured three points for Southampton had it not been for Robin van Persie’s last-minute equaliser, which maintained Arsenal’s position at the top of the Premier League.

Jim Smith, Derby County manager, signed Delap for PS200,000 in February 1998. He went on to make 13 appearances throughout the 1997-98 season. Although he failed to score a league goal in the 1998-1999 season, Delap did manage to score the winning goal in a League Cup tie against Manchester City. He was Derby’s top goal scorer in 1999-00 with eight goals. He scored his first goal in the campaign against Arsenal, a 2-1 loss. His second goal of the season was a 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday. His third came in a 3-3 tie with Southampton. Delap scored two goals in a 3-1 win over Chelsea, which boosted his total to five. He also scored against eventual champions Manchester United two games later at Pride Park. Delap assisted and scored a goal in a 3-1 win over Chelsea. Stan Collymore was also injured in that game. After only 22 seconds of a draw with Bradford City (4-4), Delap scored his eighth and final goal. However, he was sent off for conceding one penalty. Delap scored again against Bradford and Leicester during the 2000-01 season. His final goal for Derby was a 1-0 win over Ipswich Town, on December 2, 2000. This brought his league total to 11.
