Ronan Lee is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on January 4, 1976 in Drogheda, Australia. Born 4 January 1976, Dr Ronan Oliver Lee is an Irish-Australian politician. He is currently a visiting scholar at Queen Mary University of London’s International State Crime Initiative, where he studies Myanmar, the Rohingya and hate speech. Formerly a political advisor, he was later a Labor and Green Party member of Queensland’s State Parliament. Since 2001, when he was first elected to the Labor Party’s member of the Queensland State Parliament, Lee has represented Indooroopilly.

Premier Bligh named Lee Parliamentary Secretary of the Minister for Main Roads and Local Government in 2007 after Beattie retired.

In 2008 Bligh moved Lee to the newly created role of Parliamentary Secretary to the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and Minister Assisting the Premier in Western Queensland where he was to focus on consumer protection and organising the state’s No Interest Loans Scheme for low income earners. In this role Lee was critical of broad reach of the State’s anti-public nuisance laws which he said contributed to the controversial and violent arrest of a homeless pensioner.

In 2008 Lee announced that he had resigned from the ALP and was going to contest Indooroopilly as the endorsed candidate for the Green Party. Lee became the Green Party’s first Queensland MP and used his shift to the Greens to become one of the state’s first MPs to publicly back marriage equality.

After the 2006 election, Premier Peter Beattie named Lee Parliamentary Secretary of the Minister for Communities and Disability Services, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships Seniors and Youth. Lee was primarily focused on youth policy, advocating for more young people to be involved in government decision-making and for better public transport services on weekends and nights.

Lee was elected to the Indooroopilly seat in 2001. He surprised many when he defeated Denver Beanland, former Queensland Liberal Leader. Two factors contributed to the surprise result: the large margin of victory that re- elected Beattie Labor Government, and Lee’s strong grass-roots campaign. Lee was reelected to his seat in 2004. During this term, he campaigned against asset sales by the Labor government, including the privitisations of Queensland’s electricity sector. He defeated Peter Turner, Liberal Party’s Peter Turner to win a third term in the parliamentary elections. Lee secured his seat again thanks to the Green preferences. Lee was appointed Parliamentary Secretary during this term.

The first “wild river declarations”, in 2007, were made. They included protection for the Gulf of Carpentaria river system Settlement Creek, Morning Inlet and the Gregory, Staaten and Hinchinbrook Islands waterways. The Archer, Stewart, and Lockhart River Basins as well as the Wenlock River have been protected by the Queensland Government since then.

During his time in Parliament Lee campaigned to end broadscale land clearing in Queensland a practice often involving dragging a heavy chain strung between two bull dozers to remove every tree, contributing to Queensland having the sixth highest rate of land clearing in the world. A ban on most clearing in Queensland came into force in January 2007.
