Ronald Arden Essink, born July 30, 1958, is an ex-American football offensive tackle who played for the Seattle Seahawks in the National Football League. He played college football for Grand Valley State University.
He was injured in training camp on the second day and had to be sidelined for a pulled groin. He was traded to Dallas Cowboys on August 25 for a fifth-round draft choice (#120 – Chris Gaines).
As a junior, he helped the team achieve the best record (9–3) in school history and qualify to the playoffs for the first time. They lost against Elon College in the semifinals of the NAIA playoffs.
He was the Dallas Cowboys’ starting left tackle in 1987. He announced his retirement from pro football on September 1, one week after he was traded. In the two previous years, he had been through six surgeries on his elbows.

The Seattle Seahawks selected Essink in the 10th round (265th overall), of the 1980 NFL Draft. He was the first Grand Valley player to have been drafted by an NFL sideline team. He started three games as a rookie at left tackle and passed Louis Bullard on their depth chart. He scored a touchdown on a 2-yard pass from Jim Zorn on November 27. This was the Seahawks’ only point in a 7-51 defeat against the Dallas Cowboys.
For the next five seasons, he was the starter at left tackle until injuries limited him. In 1986, Ron Mattes, a rookie left tackle, was named starter. Essink had to miss the entire season due to elbow injuries.
In 1991, he was inducted into the Grand Valley State University Athletics Hall of Fame.
