He stated that Genevois wasn’t a Haitian national as is often believed and was 100% French. Genevois stated that he never signed any document to maintain dual citizenship and refused to accept Haitian citizenship. Although he claimed to have answered a request for a friendly match with Venezuela, he said that it didn’t count officially because he had not traveled through Haiti. He spent a week with the team and recalls having a good memory. Organization was a problem after that. First, he recalls that he arrived at an airport in Florida in the morning and was picked up in the afternoon. He didn’t know who the national coach is. He decided to continue his professional career in France after this bad experience. Later, he was contacted by team officials to join but he didn’t want to travel to Haiti because of its difficult conditions. He had left France for France as a child and never returned to Haiti.

In February 2008, he made his debut for Haiti against Venezuela. This friendly match served as a warm up for the FIFA World Cup qualifier against Nicaragua or the Netherlands Antilles in 2010.

Genevois was born at L’Estere in Haiti. Genevois was 3 years old when he was taken from his biological parents, who were unable to care for him. He was adopted by a French couple, who couldn’t have children. He arrived in France in February 1991. He grew up in Montcenis in Saone-et-Loire, where his parents chose to live.

Genevois was a youth player at FC Gueugnon and made his debut with the team in 2006-07 season. In 2009, he moved to Tours FC and returned to Ligue 2. In 2012, he signed with OGC Nice. He finished his tenure in fourth place and qualified for the UEFA Europa League 2016. Genevois signed a contract for three years to play with Stade Malherbe Caen.

During this second stint with the national team, his outlook differed and stated his pleasure to be able to play for his country of origin and that things has really changed. He cites that something is building and there is room for optimism in Haitian football evoking its entry in the Copa America as “a very good experience, a very nice competition.” He was one of the 23 players selected for the 2016 Copa América, which was the first time in its history to allow qualifications from countries outside of CONMEBOL, thus Haiti managed to qualify and enter for the first time.
