She was born in Simanggang (now Sri Aman), Sarawak, on 3 January 1955. She was educated at Sibu’s SMK Methodist. She continued her education at Universiti Pertanian Malaysia, where she studied agro-industry. After completing her studies, she received her Master of Business Administration from Ohio University, Athens. She is the mother of three children.
With 70 percent of her vote for her, she won the Batang Lupar parliamentary constituency against the opposition party members in the 2008 general elections. Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, the Malaysian Prime Minister, appointed her Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Agrobased Industry.
On May 15, 2013, she was appointed Women and Family Development Minister in the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development. She started her official duties as Minister on 17 May 2013.
She was still able defend the Santubong Parliamentary Seat in the 1999 and 1995 general elections. She had switched to the Batang Lupar Sri Aman, Sarawak in 2004 and won the seat uncontested.

Dato’ Sri Hajah Rohani binti Abul Karim (Jawi rwHny Bnt bdlkrym, born 3 January 1955) was a Malaysian politician. She currently serves as the Member of Parliament for Malaysia in Batang Lupar, Sarawak. She represents the United Traditional Bumiputera Party. She was elected federal minister of women, family, and community development in the Barisan Nasional coalition. Prior to that, she had been Deputy Minister for Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism and Deputy Secretary of Agriculture and Agrobased Industries.
Rohani was elected as an independent candidate in the 1990 general elections and won the Santubong seat.
On April 9, 2009, Malaysia’s sixth Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who just held the leadership of the country at that time, entrusted her to take over Tan Lian Hoe’s duties as Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism.
