Roger E. Olson is one of the most popular and richest American theologian who was born on February 2, 1952 in Des Moines, Iowa, United States. He stated that Classical Arminianism means being classically Protestant and affirming total depravity and conditional election, unlimited atonement and prevenient grace. God is not in any way or by any means the author of sin or evil, but that these are only allowed by him. You can see that Olson’s definition is literal to the Five articles on remonstrance (1610). This article deals with the question of conditional preservation for the saints. It was not settled at the time.

Olson attended Open Bible College in Des Moines and North American Baptist Seminary. He also studied at Rice University. Olson received his Ph.D. (Religious Studies) in 1984 under the guidance of Nields Nielson. Olson is also an ordained Baptist minister.

Since 1999, Olson has been Holder of the Foy Valentine Professor of Christian Theology of Ethics at George W. Truett Theological Seminary of Baylor University, Waco, Texas.

He is noted for a broad view of what constitutes Protestant “orthodoxy.” For example, on annihilationism he commented that some evangelical theologians have “resurrected the old polemical labels of heresy and aberrational teaching” in order to marginalize other evangelicals holding the view The mosaic of Christian belief, (2002).

Olson invented the term “Pannenberg’s Principle” to describe Wolfhart Pannenberg’s argument (1969), that God’s deity was his rule. “The divinity and reign of God in this world are inseparable.”
