Rod Payne is one of the most popular and richest American Football Player who was born on June 14, 1974 in Miami, Florida, United States. Rod Payne, a former American professional football center was born June 14, 1974 and was drafted by Cincinnati Bengals (NFL). He was also an All- American center and played for the University of Michigan Michigan Wolverines football club from 1993 to 1996. He was a Super Bowl winner with the 2000 Baltimore Ravens. He was named Coach of the Year by the South Florida Sun- Sentinel Class 3-A-2A-1A in 2007. Payne was named the Florida Atlantic University’s Defensive Line coach in March 2009. This marked his first attempt at coaching at the collegiate level. Payne was appointed Head Football Coach at Spanish River High School, Boca Raton, Florida, after he left Florida Atlantic. After going 0-10 in one season, Payne decided to step down as Spanish River High School’s coach. He is now a personal trainer at The Facility for Personal Training (Boca Raton), Florida.
Payne, who retired from football in 1999, has owned a shop in Ann Arbor where he custom-built cars, hosted a radio talk show in Ann Arbor and taught special education. He also served as a managing partner for a gym in Ann Arbor. Payne is also a speaker at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Rod, who was an unmarried single child, has one child and is now married. He was a coach at Westminster Academy in Fort Lauderdale and lived in Boca Raton. After his first season of 1-9 at Westminster, Payne was named the South Florida Sun- Sentinel 3A-2A-1A Coach Of The Year 2007. After a 2007 season in which they had a record of 3-7, Rod took over as head coach at Felix Varela High school in Kendall, Florida. Varela is in Class 6A which is the most competitive and largest class.
Payne and his friend, sportswriter Steve Rom, co-authored a 2006 book titled “Centered By a Miracle”, ISBN 1-59670-145-5. According to the publisher, the book is described as follows: “After Steve’s diagnosis with leukemia, Rod quit his job as cohost of an Ann Arbor sports radio talk show, his first post- football career. He wanted to rally his friend back into health. Once again, Steve’s future was clear. The challenges ahead were also clear. It was a 10-month struggle for survival that turned these friends into brothers. Rod retired from teaching special education. He also managed a health club. Rod was a member of the Michigan Letterwinners M Club Alumni Association.

Payne is a native of Miami, Florida. He was an All-Dade County offensive and wrestling lineman. Payne played in 40 games over his four years at Michigan, including 37 consecutive. Payne was twice named All-Big Ten first team and was co-captain of the Michigan team in 1996. He was also named Most Valuable Player by the American Football Coaches Association. Payne was an ambidextrous centre. Payne broke his right wrist in the Michigan-Michigan State Paul bunyan Trophy game. He then proceeded with the rest of the game using his left hand to snap the ball.
The Cincinnati Bengals selected him in the third round, 1997 NFL Draft. He was a backup for the Bengals between 1997 and 1998, and was released in September 1998. Numerous injuries ended his playing career. He missed the 1999 NFL season due to injuries and underwent surgery on his knees. Payne filed a grievance after the Bengals released him in 1999, knowing that he had been injured. In April 2000, he signed with Baltimore Ravens and was released at the conclusion of training camp. In November 2000, he was signed to the Ravens practice squad. He won a Super Bowl ring in Super Bowl XXXV. Payne underwent twelve surgeries over the course of his football-related injuries.
On March 13, 2009 Payne was announced as the new Defensive Line Coach at Florida Atlantic University under legendary coach Howard Schnellenberger at the University’s campus in Boca Raton, Florida. Schnellenberger retired following the 2011 season. He signed to coach Spanish River High School for the 2012 season.
