Before she entered road course racing, McCall switched to racing in Late Model Stock Cars on short and dirt tracks. McCall was a participant in the 1984 IMSA GT Championship. She finished in second place. McCall was voted rookie of the year for the IMSA GT Championship. She competed in the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1985. Wally Dallenbach Jr. was her husband. McCall was raised in San Antonio Texas. McCall attended McArthur High School. McCall started racing when she was eight years old. Her father Bob, who had a sheet metal and machine shop, was an influence. Roy, her grandfather, was a participant in midget events. He retired as Bob was still a child. McCall was a quarter-midget driver until the age of 14, where she won several championships. With more than 250 wins on short tracks. In 1979, she entered the Limited Late Model championship and won ten feature races. She also took six trophy dash wins as well as two heat race wins. McCall was awarded the rookie of the Year award. In the same year, McCall was also the first female driver to participate in the Texas Race of Champions at Texas World Speedway. McCall was a driver in the 1981 All Pro Late Model Series, based in Southeastern, behind a Chevrolet Camaro. She clinched numerous top-five finishes.
McCall started competing in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series (today, the Sprint Cup Series) back in 1982. He drove the No. 5 Jim Stacy Racing Buick. After seeing her compete at New Smyrna Speedway, Stacy offered her a test drive in his Buick. McCall signed a five year contract at Daytona International Speedway. She was originally scheduled to enter five races in 1982. However, McCall’s father Robert Harrington and Stacy decided not to enter her into the Firecracker 400. After the qualifying rainout, McCall failed to qualify for the Charlotte Motor Speedway race she had first entered. McCall qualified for the Gabriel 400 at Michigan International Speedway three races later. She was the youngest woman to be eligible for a NASCAR Cup Series race, and she finished 29th. She was forced to retire from the race after an engine failure. McCall began her second race five days later, but she crashed out and was unable to qualify for the Charlotte Motor Speedway race. McCall was then faced with financial problems and she dropped out of the series.
