Gurung made his professional debut in the I-League for ONGC on 4/12/10 against East Bengal at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. ONGC lost 1-0. ONGC were relegated at the end of the season. However, after a strong showing in the 2012 I-League Second Division in which ONGC placed 2nd, the club was back in I-League.
Gurung signed with Shillong Lajong along with Vinay Singh on 18 July 2013. Gurung was the first to make Shillong Lajong’s debut in the I-League against Dempo on 22 September 2013. He played the entire match at the Duler Stadium. Shillong Lajong won the match with 0-3.
