Rosetti was selected as a referee at the FIFA World Cup 2010. His first match was a 1-1 draw with Australia and Ghana. Rosetti sent Harry Kewell, Australia’s referee, off the pitch for handling the ball at the goal line. This resulted in a penalty kick being awarded to Ghana. Rosetti refereed the Argentina-Mexico Round of 16 game, which Argentina won 3-1. However, the match was marred by controversy as Rosetti and his team incorrectly allowed Carlos Tevez’s opening goal to stand despite replays showing that it should have been ruled for offside. Rosetti was eventually removed from the FIFA list of 19 referees to participate in the remainder of the competition. However, the world governing body of football did not provide any explanation. Rosetti was greatly affected by this decision and he was forced to retire immediately after the tournament. However, he denied that it was his mistake that caused him to quit.
Rosetti was chosen to be a referee for UEFA Euro 2008 in Switzerland, Austria.
