Roberto Ovelar is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on December 1, 1985 in Curuguaty, Canindeyú Department, Paraguay. Roberto Andres Ovelar Maldonado, a Paraguayan footballer, was born 1 December 1985. He currently plays as a striker at Once Caldas in Colombia’s Categoria Primera A.

After a successful season in Peru, Ovelar returned to Cerro Porteno and won the Torneo Descentralizado. Ovelar was then signed to Cruz Azul in Mexico in January 2008. He returned to Peru in June and joined Alianza Peru on loan. His transfer was completed later that year. After a couple of good seasons at Alianza he was traded to Chilean Primera Division club Universidad Catolica in December 2011 for a US$1.5million fee.

Ovelar signed for Mexican side Cruz Azul for the Clausura 2009 tournament after his good stay in San Martín de Porres. Whilst in Mexico, Ovelar saw it as an opportunity to one day play for the Paraguay national football team, as the league featured Paraguayan players who were on the national squad. However, he barely played, and wasn’t able to get a starting role, as he just played in 5 matches coming off the bench, scoring 1 goal.

For the summer of 2012, Ovelar signed with Chilean side Universidad Católica. He played 15 matches and scored 5 goals. His debut came on January 28th, 2012, in a 2-1 win at Palestino. He was subbed off in the 67th minute and replaced by Francisco Pizarro. His first league goal came on March 11th, 2012, in a 2-1 win at O’Higgins. He scored a last minute goal to give his team the win.

His football career began at the amateur club Karende. Rogelio Rojas scouted him to play for Cerro Porteno which is one of the most popular Paraguayan clubs. Gustavo Costas was his coach at the time and called him up to play for Cerro Porteno in 2006. The team won the Primera Division. Ovelar was then loaned to the Peruvian side Universidad San Martin de Porres after the 2007 season.

He had excellent performances which gave him the opportunity to play for the Peruvian national football squad, but he was keen to archive his goal to one day play for Paraguay. His first goal came on December 5th, 2009, in a 2-2 home draw against Cesar Vallejo. His 45th minute go-ahead goal made up for an own-goal he had scored in the 30th minute. Ovelar was subbed off in the 75th minute, replaced by a young André Carrillo.
