Roberto Alagna is one of the most popular and richest Street Artist who was born on June 7, 1963 in Clichy-sous-Bois, Île-de-France, France. Alagna was the child of Sicilian immigrants and was born in Paris, 1963. Alagna started singing and busking in Parisian cabarets as a teenager. This was mostly to get tips. He was influenced primarily by Mario Lanza’s films and learned from recordings of many historical tenors. However, he remained largely self taught. Gabriel Dussurget, co-founder of Aix-en-Provence Festival, discovered him.

While singing Madama Butterfly’s Pinkerton role at the Metropolitan Opera, Alagna took over the role of Romeo in Romeo et Juliette from Rolando Villazon. The two performances were in September and December 2007. His wife, who had traveled to New York with him to attend the September engagements was fired by the Lyric Opera Chicago because she missed her rehearsal dates for La Boheme. The Metropolitan Opera engaged Alagna at the last moment to replace Marco Berti [it] for a performance of Aida on 16 October 2007. The audience stood up to give him a standing ovation after the performance. The Met broadcast the 15 December performance of Romeo et Juliette starring Alagna & Netrebko into 447 theatres around the world in high definition. It was seen by approximately 97,000 people.

In recent years, Alagna has been an advocate of restoring to prominence neglected French operas – Alfano’s Cyrano de Bergerac, Massenet’s Le jongleur de Notre-Dame, Lalo’s Fiesque, and new works – Vladimir Cosma’s Marius et Fanny and his brother David Alagna’s Le dernier jour d’un condamné. He has also recorded light music with an homage album to Luis Mariano, Sicilien, and Pasión.

Alagna’s first wife, Florence Lancien, died of a brain tumour in 1994; they had one daughter, Ornella, who was born in 1992. In 1996, he married Romanian soprano Angela Gheorghiu. The couple announced a divorce in 2009, but had reunited by 2011. However, in January 2013, the couple mutually agreed on a formal divorce. Alagna and the Polish soprano Aleksandra Kurzak had begun a relationship, and their daughter, Malena, was born on 29 January 2014. Alagna and Kurzak married in 2015.

Alagna opened La Scala’s 2006/07 season on 7/12/2006 in Aida, a new production by Franco Zeffirelli. Alagna was dismissed from the loggione, the lowest priced seats at the back of La Scala, for his opening performance, which was considered ill-at ease, and was then booed and whistled off the stage. Zeffirelli and La Scala management denounced the tenor’s response to public criticism as unprofessional and immature. Zeffirelli said that a professional should not behave in such a manner. It is easy to hurt Alagna’s feelings because he is so sensitive. He doesn’t know how to behave like a star. Antonello Palombi, his understudy, successfully took over the role of Radames for the remainder of the performance. He entered the stage in jeans and a black shirt.
