He was a Member of the House of Commons of Canada between 2010 and 2019. Sopuck was first elected in a byelection on November 29, 2010. He represented the ridings of Dauphin -Swan River -Marquette and Dauphin -Swan River -Neepawa, respectively, from 2010 through 2015. He is a member of The Conservative Party of Canada.

From 2000 to 2009 Sopuck served as Vice-President for Policy (Western Canada), the Delta Waterfowl Foundation’s Director, and was also the Director of the environmental policy project “Smart Green” and the Frontier Centre for Public Policy’s “Rural Renaissance Project”. He was the chairman of the Manitoba Fish and Lake Improvement Program for Parkland Region’s fisheries development group. He was a natural resource specialist at AMEC Earth and Environmental Limited during the winter 2009-2010 and oversaw an Alberta oil exploration and drilling program.

In February 2008, Sopuck was awarded the Outdoor Heritage Award from the Manitoba Wildlife Federation. The award thanked him “For protecting and enhancing our hunting heritage and passing on these traditions in good health to future generations.”

From 2010 to 2015, Sopuck was a member of the Standing Committee for Environment and Sustainable Development and the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans. In addition, he chaired the Manitoba Regional Caucus, which was the group of Conservative MPs representing Manitoba electoral districts who met before national caucus meetings.

He was the coordinator of sustainable development in Manitoba from 1988 to

1996. In addition, he served as the observer for Manitoba on the founding board for the International Institute for Sustainable Development. He was appointed director of environmental programs at Pine Falls Paper Company in 1996. He also served on the board for the Manitoba Habitat Heritage Corporation.

Robert Sopuck earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Manitoba in 1973, and his Master of Science degree from Cornell University (1975), in Ithaca.
