Robert Franciscus Eenhoorn OON, born February 9, 1968, is a former Dutch professional baseball player and manager. As a utility infielder, he played four seasons of Major League Baseball for the New York Yankees as well as the California/Anaheim Angels. Eenhoorn, a Dutch-born player, became the first to hit a homer in Major League Baseball since Jack Lelivelt (1912). Greg Halman, Didi Gregorius and Didi Gregorius later repeated the feat. (All Dutch MLB players who have hit home runs were also born in other countries, mostly in the Caribbean territories of the country, including Curacao natives Andruw Jones and Hensley Meulens. Eenhoorn was a member of the Triple-A Norfolk Tides, a New York Mets team in 1998.
Eenhoorn slugged.280/.324/.433 with Albany-Colonie in 1993. He was the All- Star shortstop of the Eastern League. After that year, he was taken off the top Yankee prospect lists. Eenhoorn slugged.239/.270/.324 in 1994 for the Triple-A Columbus Clippers. In his first three MLB games, he was 2 for 4.
The Yankees placed Eenhoorn on waivers in September 1996, and he was claimed by the Anaheim Angels. In 1997, he hit .308/.350/.473 for the Triple-A Vancouver Canadians. He was 7 for 20 with the 1997 Anaheim Angels, with his only MLB home run.
Back in Rotterdam, Eenhoorn became player-manager of the Hoofdklasse team of Neptunus, during the seasons 1999–2001. All three seasons, Neptunus was most successful on a national level, since it both won in the Hoofdklasse (Dutch Major League) and the Holland Series. He was named Hoofdklasse Most Valuable Player as well as Coach of the Year in 2000, the first person to take both honors in the same year. The team also had international success when it won the World Port Tournament in 1999 and the European Cup in 2000 and 2001. In the 1999 World Port Tournament, Eenhoorn was named co-MVP with Ken Brauckmiller. Eenhoorn also played for the Netherlands national baseball team at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He was not productive in those Olympics, going 3 for 26 with one walk, no runs and no RBI. He was caught stealing in both of his attempts.
Eenhoorn was a 1991 Gulf Coast League Yankees pitcher who hit.350/.395/.575 and.241/.320/.343 with the Class-A Advanced Prince William Cannons. After entering the season as the #6 prospect according to Baseball America, Eenhoorn batted.305/.370/.409 for the Class-A Advanced Fort Lauderdale Yankees. He also hit.235/.271/.327 with the Double-A Albany Colonie Yankees. After the season, he was downgraded from #6 to #7 by Baseball America. He was behind Derek Jeter but ahead of Dave Silvestri as a Yankees shortstop.

Eenhoorn was a professional pitcher for Neptunus and Haarlem Nicols during the Dutch Honkbal Hoofdklasse (the highest level of professional Dutch baseball) from 1984 to 1990. In 1984, he was the top Dutch prospect and won the Ron Fraser Award. He was a member of the Netherlands’ Gold Medal team at the 1987 European Baseball Championship. He was also a member of the Dutch Gold Medal team in 1987 European Baseball Championship.
Eenhoorn, a North Carolina student at Davidson College, was named third-team All-American shortstop in 1990 by Baseball America. Eenhoorn was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 45th round of the 1990 Major League Baseball Draft. A compensation pick was also obtained to compensate for Walt Terrell’s loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
On May 28, 1995, Eenhoorn was the last player to start at shortstop for the New York Yankees before Derek Jeter’s debut. Due to Jeter’s promotion to Columbus, the Yankees shifted Eenhoorn to second base. He batted .252/.300/.352 that year, and batted 2 for 14 in the majors.
