Rob Moerschell is one of the most popular and richest American Football Player who was born on November 18, 1962 in Dallas, Texas, United States. Robert Marvin Moerschell, born November 18, 1962, is an ex-American football player. For most of 1983, he was the Texas Longhorns’ quarterback. This was the last undefeated regular season in Texas history. When Todd Dodge became the quarterback, he was promoted to tailback and punt returner. In 1981 and 1982, he also returned kickoffs and punts. Moerschell was the last Texas quarterback to remain undefeated as an offensive starter throughout his career. He is also one of the top ten punt returners in Texas history.
He was supposed to be the backup quarterback in 1983. However, Todd Dodge, the starting quarterback, suffered a shoulder injury during scrimmage just before the season opener. Moerschell took over the starting job against Auburn. Moerschell was able to run the option and throw the football, which he shared with Rick McIvor. He would continue the season trading starting positions with McIvor and Dodge. Moerschell was the starting quarterback for six of the following games. Texas won a dramatic victory over North Texas. He also led Texas to an impressive win over Oklahoma. However, poor performances against SMU and Texas Tech resulted in Dodge being relegated to the bench. After a series of poor performances against Houston and TCU, Moerschell was able to regain the starting spot three games later. Moerschell was in the starting lineup for the two remaining games against Baylor, Texas A&M and Texas. However, Texas fell behind 13-0 in the second game. Rick McIvor took over the lead and scored 45 points. Rick McIvor also gained the starting spot, even though Moerschell was a key supporter. McIvor was the Longhorns’ quarterback in the Cotton Bowl, where a win would have secured them a National Championship. However, Georgia scored the winning touchdown after a muffed punt returned. Moerschell was able to play a few plays in that game.
Moerschell began his Texas career as a backup quarterback. However, because he was a strong runner, special teams saw him in his freshman and sophomore seasons, as a punt and kickoff return specialist. In 1982, he was the team’s top punt returner and had a 30-yard career-long kickoff return against Utah. Because he was not as strong as the other quarterbacks, he struggled to succeed as a quarterback.
