Rob McKinnon is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on July 31, 1966 in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom. Robert McKinnon, born 31 July 1966, is a former Scottish footballer who was a leftback and played at professional and international levels.
McKinnon was reunited with Motherwell in the Scottish Premier Division in January 1992. McKinnon was part of the strong team that Tommy McLean and Alex McLeish built. Motherwell finished third in 1993-94, were runners-up 1994-95 and McKinnon received international recognition with his teammates Brian Martin, Chris McCart and Paul Lambert.
However, Motherwell could not afford the wages to keep the players, and McKinnon and Lambert decided to move to continental clubs on a free transfer when their contracts expired in summer 1996 under the recently implemented Bosman ruling. Lambert signed for Borussia Dortmund, and McKinnon made the move to Dutch football, joining FC Twente.
He then moved down the divisions with Clydebank for two seasons, before reverting to Junior football in 2002 with Bellshill Athletic where he had a period as player-coach alongside former Motherwell teammate Tommy Coyne. Finally he turned out for hometown club East Kilbride Thistle at the age of 39.
McKinnon went on to Hartlepool United where he was instrumental in the club’s promotion from English football’s fourth tier between 1990 and 1991. McKinnon also spent a brief time on loan at Manchester United. However, he didn’t play in a competitive match.
