Deacon was prominent in Sutton’s victory over Championship side Leeds United in the fourth round, 29 January. They were ranked 84 places higher than Sutton. This resulted in the U’s reaching the fifth round in the FA Cup, for the first time ever in their 118-year club history. Deacon was selected in the FA/OPTA Team of the Round. Deacon started his Arsenal career in 2008 as a schoolboy. He progressed through the youth ranks to play regularly for the U18 team. In July 2010, he signed his first professional contract, a one-year contract. He made 16 appearances on the reserve team during the 2010-11 season and scored four goals. He also played in the U19 team, which reached the semi-finals at the Dallas Cup. He scored three goals. He was not able to make any first-team appearances despite playing at reserve level. Arsenal released him on 17 June 2011. Deacon signed a one-and a half-year contract with Sunderland, a Premier League side just two weeks after being released by Arsenal. Deacon played 20 games for Sunderland’s second team during the 2011-12 season. He scored three goals but was not able to make it into the first-team. Deacon has represented England’s U19 team three times. He was an unutilized substitute in England’s 3-1 victory against Finland U19s on September 9, 2009. Two days later, Deacon made his debut in a 3-1 win over Slovenia. He played as a second-half substitute, scoring England’s third goal in the penalty spot. He made his debut in a 2-0 victory over the U19s of Slovakia in Lendava three days later. Deacon was summoned to play against the Netherlands U19 team in March 2010. He earned his third cap in a 1-1 draw.
Deacon began his career with Premier League club Arsenal in 2009. He signed professional terms before the 2010-11 season. Deacon was not able to make any first-team appearances, and was released in the summer 2011. Deacon joined Sunderland in July of that year. On 3 December, Deacon scored a dramatic winner in the final minute of added time in the second round tie, a 2–1 home victory over League Two side Cheltenham Town, to send Sutton through to the third round of the FA Cup for the first time in 22 years. The following day Deacon featured on The Non-League Paper’s front page and again in the team of the day, alongside Simon Downer and manager Paul Doswell. Deacon said later: “It was 100% the best moment of my career, putting Sutton into the Third Round of the FA Cup, it was the stuff dreams are made of for anyone.” Deacon was voted player of the month by Sutton supporters.

The replay took place at Kingsmeadow on 17 January.
