Rani worked with Indian Railways from 1994 to 2014. She then joined the Haryana Police. Rani was a student at Shahbad Hockey Academy in Shahabad.
Rani was the leader of the team that won the Round 2 of 2014-15 Women’s FIH Hockey World League Rani steered the team to the top and qualified for the next stage. Rani also led the team to the World League Semifinals in Antwerp, where they finished fifth behind Japan, which was higher in classification. Her captaincy saw the Indian women’s field hockey team qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics, the first time they have qualified since 1980 Summer Olympics.
Since I was 10, I have dreamed of participating in the Olympics. It’s an honor to lead this group. Many of these girls won medals at the junior world cup. We have learned from our experience against the best teams what we can expect in Rio. Even our seniors tried hard to make it, but were unable to overcome South Africa’s final hurdle. This team is something special.

Ritu Rani, born 29 December 1991, is an Indian field hockey player. She was also the former captain of India’s national team. She is a halfback. Rani led the team to many medal-winning performances, including the bronze at 2014 Asian Games. After finishing fifth in the 2014-15 Women’s FIH Hockey World League Semifinals, the team qualified to the Olympics.
Rani made her senior debut in 2006 at the Asian Games, Doha. Rani was 14 years old when she joined the Indian team at the 2006 World Cup. Rani was the top scorer at the 2009 Champions Challenge II Kazan, Russia. She had eight goals. In 2011, she was elected captain of the team. She was named the captain of the team in 2011.
