Ricky rode superbly on his home track to win the PL Riders Championship on 27 September 2009. Ricky gained a good reputation on grass track and was soon introduced to speedway. After just a few practice sessions on a speedway bicycle, he was talent-spotting by Belle Vue Colts. After only 12 months of experience in speedway, he signed quickly for Premier League side Sheffield Tigers. Since then, he has been a heat leader at Owlerton and has also raced in Elite League racing with Peterborough Panthers (2004) and Poole Pirates (2005).
