As Chief Executive of the Premier League, he was involved in the establishment of the Premier League rules and as Chief Executive of Liverpool, is believed to have voiced concerns over the registration in January when attempting to sign Mascherano on a loan deal.
On 25 February 2009 it was announced that he would be leaving Liverpool Football Club at the end of the 2008-09 season.
Parry’s expertise isn’t limited to football. He prepared Manchester’s bid in 1985 for the 1992 Olympic Games and advised the Birmingham Olympic Games Council regarding financial matters. He spent six months working on a major assignment with The Football League in the next year before taking over as Chief Executive of the Manchester Phoenix Initiative, an important urban regeneration project that culminated in the creation of the Central Manchester Development Corporation.

Rick Parry attended Ellesmere Port Grammar School as well as the University of Liverpool. After completing his Maths degree in 1976 as a trainee Chartered Accountant, he was certified three years later. After working in financial controller positions for a few years, he returned to his old firm, Arthur Young in 1983 as a management consulting.
Parry, a passionate Liverpool fan, was hired in 1991 from his job as a senior management consultant at the UK’s Ernst & Young to help plan the new Premier League. Parry was appointed Chief Executive in February 1992. The Football Association ratified the competition seven days later. This allowed Parry to move on to negotiations for a TV deal, which was ultimately awarded to BSkyB (now the BBC) for a record PS304 million over five year.
Parry was appointed as chief executive at Liverpool in July 1998 by then chairman David Moores.
