Richard Eugene Manning, born September 2, 1954, is a former center- fielder and current broadcaster of Major League Baseball (MLB). He played for the Cleveland Indians (1975-1983), and Milwaukee Brewers (83-1987) and has been a color commentator on Cleveland Indians telecasts ever since 1990.
Manning was traded from the Indians to the Milwaukee Brewers in 1983 after he had played five more seasons. Manning was a Brewers player and he scored a run in the 10th inning to win the Brewers’ 1-0 victory over the Indians. Brewers fans booed Manning because he drove in the winning run, but Paul Molitor was there looking to extend his 39-game hit streak. Manning’s walkoff single denied Molitor a chance to win 40 games, as he was 0-4 in the contest.
Manning caught Ernie Whitt’s fly ball on May 15, 1981. This was the last out of Len Barker’s perfect game. The Indians beat the Toronto Blue Jays, 3-0.
