This was his last appearance for the club. After a short spell on loan at Lincoln City, he was again injured and left out for six months. Graham Taylor released him in 1998, but recommended him to Kevin Hodges of Plymouth Argyle. He suffered a dislocation of the left patella that ended his career in the 1998-99 season.

Flash was born in Birmingham. Flash was scouted as a schoolboy by Liverpool, Arsenal and Aston Villa. Geoff Watson, Manchester United’s scout, convinced him to sign schoolboy forms. He went on to be the West Midland youth team captain, the Manchester Eagles. They won the Keele Classic under-14. He declined the chance to join the F.A.’s National School of Excellence in Lilleshall in 1990 to train with Aston Villa and Birmingham City. His development was impeded by a right knee injury he sustained at 14 years old.
He joined Manchester United in 1992 with Terry Cooke and David Johnson. He played for the club at youth and reserve levels, and was a roommate with Terry Cooke and David Beckham during his seven-year career. He was forced to retire from Manchester United after sustaining another knee injury early in his Manchester United career. This time, he had a dislocated right tibia.
