Gotham was born in Norwood, Massachusetts. After graduating from Milford High School in 1982, Gotham attended Providence College in Rhode Island. He graduated in 1986, with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. An active alumni, he is currently a member of the Providence College Boston President’s Council, Varsity Athletics Board, and the Vision Team for the Men’s Basketball program.

Gotham left Lycos in April 2003, and joined the Celtics as the organization’s Executive Vice-President of Sales, Marketing and Corporate Development. He was promoted to chief operating officer in June 2006.
