He also won two silver medals: in the 200-metre backstroke, and in the 200-metre butterfly (both beating the South American record).

At the 1983 Summer Universiade, in Edmonton, Prado won two bronze medals: in the 200-metre and 400-metre individual medley races. He also finished fourth in the 200-metre backstroke, and sixth in the 200-metre butterfly.

Prado was awarded a gold medal at the 1982 World Aquatics Championships, Guayaquil. His time of 4:09.78 was a new world record. Prado also participated in four other finals, including fourth place in the 200-metre butterfly (beating South American records), eighth in the 200 metre individual medley and eighth in both the 200 metre and 200 metre backstroke, as well as the 4×100 metre medley. Prado was able to achieve a good result in the 200-metre individual Medley, but conditions in Ecuador were not favorable. The hotel where we stayed was not well-maintained. It was right across from the Guayaquil bus stop. Although I made it to the final of the 200-meter individual medley, I was weak from the terrible food and ended up in eighth place. Prado returned home with gold on the neck and a large mycosis. Djan Madruga was more fortunate: he contracted Typhoid fever.
