Evangelista of Brgy was his mother. San Jose and his mother, Rufina Gonda (Brigy). Both Talaga are from Mabini in Batangas. Reynaldo is fifth of the nine siblings. He has his only brother Antonio and seven sisters, Teresita and Gloria and Rosita and Cecilia Ferrer. On January 18, 1983, his father passed away.

On December 11, 2004, Evangelista was ordained Bishop of Boac. He was consecrated bishop on January 26, 2005 at the San Sebastian Cathedral, Lipa City by Antonio Franco, Apostolic Nuncio in the Philippines. He was inaugurated on February 22, 2005.

Reynaldo G. Evangelista is the current bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Imus, appointed by Pope Francis on April 8, 2013, his first appointment in the Philippines. He replaced Bishop Luis Antonio G. Tagle after he was installed as the Archbishop of Manila in December 2011. Evangelista was installed as the fifth Bishop of Imus on June 5, 2013. He previously served as the third Bishop of Boac in Marinduque province from December 11, 2004 until his appointment to Imus.

Evangelista was ordained a priest on February 26, 1986 by the Ruben T.Profugo, Bishop of Lucena. Mariano G. Gaviola was the Archbishop in Lipa who ordained him a priest at San Sebastian Cathedral in Lipa City on June 19, 1986.

Evangelista was a primary school student at Anilao Elementary School, Anilao (Batangas). In 1970, he attended Mabini Central Elementary school for intermediate school. He continued his high school education in Lipa City at the St. Francis de Sales Minor Seminary.

Present Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle, Evangelista’s predecessor, along with Manila Archbishop-Emeritus Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales and Cebu Archbishop-Emeritus Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, witnessed the installation.
