In December 2007, Chandler was designated the United States Army Sergeants Major Academies CSM. Chandler was appointed the 19th USASMA Commandant and the first enlisted commander in USASMA’s history.
In February 2015, Chandler was appointed by Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) to serve on the National Commission on the Future of the Army (http://www.ncfa.ncr.gov/) as a commissioner. On January 28, 2016, the commission presented its report to President Obama, and to Congress at the 114th Congress.
On March 1, 2011, Chandler was made the 14th Army Sergeant Major. On March 1, 2011, Chandler was made the 14th Sergeant Major of Army. Regularly, the U.S. Congress invites the Sergeant Major of Army to testify. Daniel A. Dailey succeeded him on January 30, 2015.
