Ray Gelato is one of the most popular and richest Songwriter who was born on October 25, 1961 in London, England, United Kingdom. Gelato, the son of an American soldier stationed in the UK, was born in London. Gelato was exposed to the music of swing bands in the 1940s and R&B and rock and rolling of the 1950s through his father’s records collection. Louis Jordan’s music and Louis Prima’s music were inspirational to Gelato, who discovered this love in his teens while visiting local clubs to listen to live music. Gelato was inspired by Sam Butera’s playing to learn the tenor and baritone saxophones. He became proficient enough to start semi-professionally playing the instrument the next year. Gelato teamed up in 1982 with Patrice Serapiglia from France, and the small band they formed became the Chevalier Brothers. Gelato was given his stage name at this point. After a success at the Camden Palace talent show, Gelato and Patrice Serapiglia were invited to tour Europe and Japan with their swing revival music. They played at the Montreux Jazz Festival and the North Sea Jazz Festival. However, the group was disintegrated by 1988. After briefly working as a solo artist, Gelato was able to sing and play in the British movie Scandal (1989). He then formed Ray Gelato and The Giants of Jive. They performed at Carnegie Hall in 1992, which was filmed for Italian television. They also recorded Gelato Express (1993), but they broke up the next year.

In 2004, Gelato signed a record contract and Ray Gelato was released the following year. On This Morning, Gelato sang his own song “A Pizza You”. Gelato was also present at the 2004 Proms in the Park concert with The Corrs and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. He later performed “It Don’t Mean A Thing (If it Ain’t Got That Swing),” on BBC One’s Strictly Dance Fever. The soundtrack to 2005’s The Perfect Man featured Gelato’s self-penned song “Givin’ Up, Givin’ Up”. The band participated in the largest UK theatre tour to date in 2006.

Following George Melly’s long-standing residency, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club’s Christmas seasonal slot was occupied in 2015 by Ray Gelato and the Giants. In 2016, Gelato and Claire Martin appeared at the Ribble Valley Jazz Festival, promoting their joint album, We’ve Got a World That Swings, which was released by Linn Records.

They were also present at Paul McCartney’s 2002 wedding to Heather Mills. They also played for Queen Elizabeth II at The Ritz Hotel in London and at Richard Branson’s home.
