Thomas attended Southeast High School, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was an Oklahoma All-State selection for 2013.
He was a sophomore and was selected to the Second Team All-Southland. He was also named Southland Defensive Play of the Year as a junior and was elected to the First Team All-Southland. He led the conference with 73 blocks and nine double-doubles. Thomas grabbed 19 rebounds in a match against Texas State on December 5, 2015. As a junior, Thomas averaged 16.6 point, 8.0 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per match.
