Raphaele Shirley, a multi-media artist, is an installation artist, light sculpture, video and video maker. She also performs live performances and engages in social intervention. Her work explores questions of time, space, primordial life forces, and what is ephemeral. She has been an integral part of the creation of large-scale social projects, such as the New York International Fringe Festival and [PAM] Perpetual Arts Machine. Recent grants from the Norwegian arts council have been granted to her for commissioned video and public works. Many of the projects in which she was involved have been awarded international acclaimed awards. She exhibits her work internationally and nationally.

Shirley was a founding member and co-director of Fringe Al Fresco from 1997 to

2001. The festival featured over 100 artists in public venues throughout the Lower East Side of New York. She co-founded the Times Square Arts Center with Aaron Beall, director and impresario. It was located in the “Show World” former Adult entertainment center at 42nd and 8th avenues in New York. There were over 100 performances, screenings, and installations. She co-founded [PAM] Perpetual Arts Machine in 2005, an interactive installation and collective of more than 2000 video artists. [PAM] has presented more than 50 exhibitions based on the video art collective around the world.
