Dwamena was the first to make a start for Liefering in the 2015-16 season against Wiener Neustadt on 21 August. Dwamena played the 90 minute match in place of Smail Prvljak. Dwamena’s first professional goal was scored on 18 September in his fifth consecutive start. Dwamena scored in a 4-1 victory over Austria Klagenfurt.
Dwamena didn’t get the chance to play for the youth national teams of his country Ghana. Raphael Dwamena was called into the senior team as part of the 30-man squad for the 2017 African Cup of Nations but was dropped from the 23-man squad.
On 21 August 2017, Zürich agreed a fee with Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion for the transfer of Dwamena. He was set to join Brighton subject to passing a medical, obtaining a work permit and international clearance, however the deal fell through after Dwamena failed his medical due to a heart condition. He instead, remained an FC Zürich player.
Dwamena joined Salzburg’s youth team in January 2014. He immediately made an impact on their U18 squad. He scored seven goals in four tournaments in June. He won the Golden Shoe, even though Salzburg was third.

Dwamena was born in Nkawkaw and has been a part of the Red Bull Ghana development program. Dwamena was the tournament’s best player and helped the RB Ghana U17 Team to a silver medal performance at the International Tournament in Croix in France in 2013. Dwamena traveled to Austria with his teammate David Atanga before returning to Ghana.
Dwamena was promoted from FC Liefering to the Salzburg farm team in the Austrian Football First League in July 2014. Dwamena made his professional debut in July. He was replaced by Nikola Dovedan in the 82nd minutes of a 3-0 victory over Hartberg. He was one six Liefering players who made their professional debuts on that day. He also played in another game that season.
