Barcelos was born in Rio de Janeiro Brazil and started training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) at the age of two under his father, Laerte Barcelos, who is a 7th degree BJJ Coral Belt BJJ practitioner. He also took up freestyle wrestling under the influence of his father who is also an amateur wrestler in 1980’s and competed for Brazilian National Wrestling Team .By the time Barcelos was twenty he received his black belt in BJJ. He competed extensive in BJJ tournaments in his teenage years and won four world titles in the lower belts and transitioned to compete in mixed martial arts (MMA) in 2012.
