Hedberg, born December 27, 1954, is an American football coach. He was a former player and is currently the Associate Head Coach and QBs Coach at North Dakota State University. Hedberg was a former quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFL in 1977. From 1982 to 1989, he was the head coach of Minot State University and St. Cloud State University, where he was the head coach from 1999 to 2007, compiling an impressive career college football record with a score of 92-74-2.

Hedberg was inducted in the Minot State’s Hall of Fame in 1985. He is the father of four children: Maddie, Kate, Christopher, and Kate.

After his playing career, he became an assistant coach at Minot State from 1979 to 1981 and then its head coach between 1982 and 1989. He compiled a 45-23-2 record (.657) in eight seasons. The offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Central Missouri State University (1990-1995), and the University of North Dakota (1996-1998) in Grand Forks, were his next assignments. In 1999, he returned to St. Cloud State University, a Division II school in central Minnesota, had a 47-51 record (.480) in nine seasons. His record as a head coach is 92-74-2, (.554) over 17 seasons.

Hedberg was born and raised in Parshall in North Dakota, southwest Minot. He graduated from Parshall High School, in 1973. From 1973 to 1976, he played college football at Minot State College (an NAIA school). He was a letterwinner in basketball, football, and baseball for the Beavers and received a bachelor’s in physical education in 1977. In 1987, he received a master’s from the University of North Dakota.

Hedberg was the eleventh quarterback to be selected by the NFL Draft by Tampa Bay in 1977. Hedberg was the eighth round (196th overall). In 1977’s rookie season, Hedberg played in seven games and was a starter in four. He was placed on injured reserve in 1978 and traded to Oakland in February 1979. After a brief stint with the Raiders, Green Bay, and then back to Oakland, he never saw regular season playing time.
